« Caspase-2 in cell death and cell cycle control »
Pr Andreas VILLUNGER
Biocenter & Medizinische Universität
Pr Villunger laboratory's work focuses on the development of the immune system with an emphasis on cell death signalling, its cross talk to the cell cycle machinery, steroid hormones in the establishment of self-tolerance and miRNA function.
He will give a seminar about Caspase-2, a cell death related protease that is highly conserved throughout evolution but which function remains controversial. Recent evidence suggests roles in cell death, metabolism, tumor suppression and aging, but how caspase-2 might exert such pleiotropic activities remains unclear. Dr Villunger and colleagues have now identified a role for the PIDDosome multi-protein complex, controlling caspase-2 activation for p53-dependent cell cycle control that will allow to reconcile many seemingly contradictory findings reported for caspase-2.
